Subject: Trouble Shooting for Supplemental Braking Systems
AutoStop
The dash light doesn't come on when braking.
Is the cable too loose? Loosen the cable clamps & tighten the cable.
Is the spring in the AutoStop too tight? Adjust tension in spring.
Is there a loose connection in the wiring? Trace all wiring and stabilize connections.
Check to make sure that the cable is not stuck in the AutoStop. Replace/restring cable and/or lubricate with silicon spray.
Is there a bad ground connection for the light? Use a test light to check the ground and fix if necessary.
Try braking harder. The AutoStop does not operate at low speeds and normal stops.
Remove the 5/8" pin and see if the AutoStop will slide in and out of receiver hitch freely. Clean and lubricate with silicon
spray.
The dash light will not go off.
Is the brake pedal in the car pulled down?
Is the return on the towed vehicle brake pedal strong enough to pull pedal back up? Add a bungee cord if necessary.
Is the cable stuck in the AutoStop? Remove and replace the cable.
Is the cable adjusted too tight? Loosen cable clamps and increase cable slack.
Check for road debris damage to the brake cable housing. Replace cable if necessary.
The dash light flashes while driving.
Cable is too tight. Loosen cable clamps and add slack to cable.
The dash light comes on while turning.
Cable may be too tight. Loosen cable clamps and add slack to cable
Cable may be catching something while turning. Reroute the cable.

Dash light remains on.
Is the cylinder not releasing properly or seized up? Remove cylinder from pedal and inspect.
Are the relay or dash lights not hooked up correctly? Inspect all connections according to the wiring diagram and
make any needed changes.
Was the breakaway switch activated? Inspect and replace breakaway pin if necessary.
Dash light will not come on.
Check to make sure the connection between the coach and the towed vehicle is secure.
Does the air line have a hole in it? Inspect all tubing and replace if necessary.
Is the pull actuator strap slipping through the mounting plates on the BX88143? Loosen bolts on floor
and tighten strap slack.
Are any of the air fittings loose? Inspect all air fittings & secure connections.
Is the tubing properly inserted in the fitting? Inspect and stabilize connections where necessary.
Is the pull actuator tight enough on the towed vehicle's brake pedal? Loosen bolts and tighten strap.
Are the relay and dash lights wired correctly? Inspect all wiring according to the wiring diagram and
make needed changes.
